A copy of Jomo Kenyatta’s Ration Book issued on 7th July 1941

Jomo Kenyatta was Kenya’s leader from 1963 to 1978 and the image above, courtesy of the Lindfield website, is a copy of Jomo Kenyatta’s Ration Book issued on 7th July 1941 during Jomo Kenyatta’s stay in Britain. Ration Books were some of the measures put in place in Britain by the British Government during World War II of 1939 to 1945. Ration Books are described as below at the Imperial War Museum of Britain website:
“In January 1940, the British government introduced food rationing. The scheme was designed to ensure fair shares for all at a time of national shortage. The Ministry of Food was responsible for overseeing rationing. Every man, woman and child was given a ration book with coupons i.e. vouchers entitling the holder to discounts on certain goods.”
